Silent install of Aveva Plant SCADA

Some customers have a lot of different small sites. They are used to scripting the installation of a virtual Windows environment and would like to install Plant Scada using a script as well. Including the project and the license. They need an easy script for installing the software silently. Preferably split it up in different parts:

• Studio

• Runtime

• Drivers

• Deployment Server

• Deployment Client

• Industrial Graphics

• Sentinel Driver

• License Manager

• License Server

• OPC UA Server

• Etc

It's then possible to create a new environment which can run in production. They also have Development, Testing and Acceptance environments to which they then could deploy a complete new virtual machine.

It takes a lot of time to install and configure machines by hand, that’s why it’s automated. You don’t want to copy these virtual environments as this could result in problems with certificates, deployment and licenses. After they have tested Microsoft updates, they can rollout new virtual environments easily. This saves a lot of money.

Yes, and thank you for your suggestion. We prioritized this suggestion, and it will be available in the Plant SCADA 2023 R2 releasing Q1 2024. If you would like to test the BETA functionality for this it is ready for your testing located here --> https://aveva-cabs.centercode.com/key/VisionAIAssistantBETA

Any updates to this? Am an IT admin and our company purchases this software. We are still using Citect Scada 7.5 at present & planning to update to either v2023 or v2024. We are renewing our license in November & would be great to have a proper (silent / unattended / automated) solution to deploying this to our lab fleet.

I hope the developers will also consider to be able to automate the initial configuration after installation (all the tasks that have to be performed manually now using the Configurator).

For example, currently it is impossible to set the default server password through scripting. I had to build a AutoHotkey script to launch the Computer Setup Wizard and navigate through all screens.

For other tasks normally accomplished by the Configurator, there is currently no workaround. Configurator will not work nicely with tools like AutoHotkey either.

Thanks for the feedback. This appears to be a very important issue and also aligns with our corporate goals of leveraging the larger portflio of tools. One of these is the Installation Toolkit which provides a new installation experience and also allows for Silent Installations. This is now being worked on in a Discovery Phase, with aggressive intentions to be implemented in PS2023R2 but may slide into PS2024

My customer has approximate 140 installations/applications running. All installations follow the same standard, but current Installation/roll-out of a new version need a lot of manual work. The availability of "Silent Install" will save a lot of time.

I worked for a customer where they have more than 100 Citect/Plant SCADA servers. It is always a pain to script the installer with a new version of Citect/Plant SCADA.
it will safe a lot of time and frustration when silent installation is per part.
